I was in the kitchen today.....harvesting the seeds from Datura stramonium.....also known as Devil's Trumpet......and I was thinking of that great movie made back in the 50's, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The story was that when the humans fell asleep....these alien seed pods would duplicate their bodies. Creepy movie....just like what these pods are that I am harvesting....maybe the next pod I open, it'll be me in there!
Back to farm. The Datura stramonium is related to the Angel's Trumpet. Difference is that this is a ground type bush, and not a tree. The plant flowers nearly all the summer. The flowers are large and starkly colorful..... about 3 inches in length. Below are the seeds I am gathering up.
The farm this coming year will be creating a small scale nursery.... offering an variety of exotic shrubs such as the Datura.....heirloom veggie packs (and non heirloom).....and packaged seeds. We have an large order for heirloom veggie packs from an nursery that wants us to supply them....other sales will come from word of mouth...... to internet traffic.
