Hawk Zero pilots can't resist free dinners....

About two weeks ago......the young chicks were finally released into the fields, out from the caged chicken yard. A handful are still not quite large enough to prevent a hawk from "taking them out to dinner" :-) There has been several techniques applied to help out the chickens so that they can arrive back to their coop each night....and not some hawk's dank nest!

There's a scarecrow out there in the main chicken yard now. Fully moveable limbs and the main body can be rotated 360 degrees. The trick to a scarecrow to really work...is to move it's body limbs every other day. I also have long strips of red plastic tape tacked on the "hands". It all works.

So far.......

In the open fields......I have placed these light weight boxes in areas that have no natural protection for the little chickens against these Hawk Zero pilots. Other parts of the farm have bushes and evergreen trees to hide under. It all works.

So far.......
