Lavandula is coming to the farm.........

The Natomas Farm has brought in a new crop.....and it's a eye candy as well.....purple lavender. Known for it's great scent......this is the same stuff my Grandmother would have hanging in a bundle, inside her clothes closet, the refreshing scent would take the "stale" out of her clothes. Fact is...it was a common thing to do back in the day. Others, would use closets paneled with cedar wood for the same effect...if you were rich :-)

This future crop Lavender that is a herb..... by the way.....will be planted along the main road, in front of the boysenberry patch......on the road slope. There's another reason for planting the lavender at that location.....we don't want costumers parking on the road to access the fruit stand that will be built there....it is too dangerous for parking up off the roadside.

What good is lavender to us humans? Here's a little short list:

Lavender is used for restlessness, insomnia, nervousness, and depression. It is also used for a variety of digestive complaints including meteorism (abdominal swelling from gas in the intestinal or peritoneal cavity), loss of appetite, vomiting, nausea, intestinal gas (flatulence), and upset stomach.

Some people use lavender for painful conditions including migraine headaches, toothaches, sprains, nerve pain, sores, and joint pain. It is also used for acne and cancer, and to promote menstruation.

Lavender is applied to the skin for hair loss (alopecia areata) and pain, and to repel mosquitoes and other insects.

Some people add lavender to bathwater to treat circulation disorders and improve mental well being.

By inhalation, lavender is used as aromatherapy for insomnia, pain, and agitation related to dementia.

In foods and beverages, lavender is used as a flavor component.

As a fragrance ingredient in soaps, cosmetics, perfumes, potpourri, and decorations.
