............cocktail hour at the farm

One heck of a cocktail for the hard working.......weeds. It's the season of the nuisance again at it's worst. The weather has been perfect for an over abundance of weeds.

You could use Round Up. You could use Vinegar. Then there is Boraz. There's all sorts of  avenues one can take to fight those weeds.

In the old days when your relatives lived in log cabins and farmed with wooden wheels attached to a cart......you would most likely see many apple trees on their farm. Yes...good for pies. Yes...good for making vinegar for weed abatement too! Ever thought about how these pioneers controlled weeds? Well......now you know why they had 8 kids and apple trees :-)

Borax is the main ingredient in a less-toxic homemade weed and grass killer that controls ground ivy and creeping charlie. Dissolve 10 ounces of the powder in 4 ounces of lukewarm water in a large bucket. After the borax dissolves completely, add 2 1/2 gallons of warm water and stir thoroughly. Best to spray on a warm day. Just like most home made stuff...it is a great top killer...but not a root killer.

Now Farm Deno does know how to "take em out".....or how it was said 40 years ago: “Crush! Kill! Destroy!” Remember that one? It came from an episode of Lost in Space that I saw when I was maybe seven or eight. Killer Android IDAK Alpha 12

Back to my weed killer formula.

This will not only do a top kill...it will actually kill the roots too! Dont use on a windy day.....best on a sunny day: combine 1 tablespoon of 20 percent vinegar, 1 tablespoon of gin, 1 quart of lukewarm water and 1 teaspoon of dish soap.
