That unforgettable lesson was planting an entire hillside of Limes one late Fall day. The very first crop they were....stuck in the ground with sweat and tired bones at the end of the day. The neighbors watched each day of this on going task......smiling and waving to me as I worked.
That smiling and waving was really "stop what you're doing"!
A few months later that Jack Frost terrorist came by and killed all.
Back to the fig story....
The figs sold out so fast last season...........................
Going over to the older trees, I picked out some straight limbs. Taking a sharp knife .....I simply cut the bark off of a section, packed moss around it...then "caged" this area with a plastic bottle (as seen above). Oh....and that duct tape.....wonder tape it really should be named. Kept it moist each week.
Here we are after winter.....the end results of the experiment. I cut the branch off the mother tree.....right below where the plastic bottle was. Amazing sight....and a thrill I must say......to see such a root mass.
