..........where's the T.V. remote?

I was watching my favorite T.V. show the other night....with all the dogs of course....that show being "The Following". When the commercial interruptions come on....I like to run off to the ol kitchen to grab a snack. Farmer Deno just loves  G.H. Cretors "Chicago Mix". The dogs too.

Getting back to the sofa....the T.V. channel had been changed to PBS's special on dogs. Yes.....my mutts changed the channel to learn a little. The dogs were angry.....after learning what their dried dog food consisted of. Fillers and junk they never heard of. Misleading labeling of the contents. Serious medical issues associated with all of this garbage in a bag. All the dogs were by now sounding off a low....... guttural vocalization to display the need for Farmer Deno to change their food.....or else!

All the animals here at the farm are here to do their share of farm tasks. So yes....we should be feeding the dogs just as well as we do the horses and chickens. I must admit that I was seriously shocked at the garbage ingredients that dried dog food is made out of. It's far worst that my assumptions. One example is of the ingredient corn..... is the probably cause of the sores on our dog's paws. As much as half of all dogs.....corn is not a blessing for them. There's so much more information about this subject.....cruise Google and get shocked.

For the last few weeks.....I have been experimenting with making our own dog food. The idea was to make it economically viable ....fast to produce.....and healthy. Success has arrived.

Fresh chicken, carrots, potatoes, rice.......are in the batches. Chicken is bought by the 10 pound bag (the cheap label) at $.80 per pound. I can get it soon by the 40 pound case for $.40 per pound. To bring down the cost per pound further...... as the year goes into farm harvesting time.....I will be using peas, squash, berries and other non grains. The current price per pound of the homemade is about $.35

The top of the line non grain/filler dry dog food is about $1.05 per pound. The real cheap junk is $.26 per pound. Canned dog food is around $1.25 for a pound (those 16 oz cans). Ours.....$.35  This many dogs we have for the farm......it makes sense to feed them like Queens. Do the math.

The recipe and the simplified steps in making this chow will be available on our new upcoming website www.thenatomasfarm.com  or you can email me a request for it produce@thenatomasfarm.com  It takes less than a total hour to make this 40 pound batch!

Yes.....I am in control of the T.V. remote again....the dogs are happy campers.
