Next week we harvest......
Impressive, these young blood orange trees. There is a very high count of fruit.....yet these trees are only a few years old.
We having been doing precise and scientific testing of the blood oranges for the last three weeks...... tasting them! The tartness was absolutely there a few weeks ago....and now that super sweetness is coming into play . Jeanette has been picking the fruits for a dish of peeled orange slices, topped of with a sprinkle of sugar or sometimes with the whip cream. Last night she made a glass of blood orange juice. I'll wait til they are at their optimum natural sugar levels.....so I'll just keep eating my Chunky Chocolate ice cream (preferred) :-)
If you are my neighbor, and you are reading this blog.....come by and pick what you wish from the orchard. Here' one reason why you may want to get a bag The Natomas Farm's of blood oranges:
Blood Orange Punch Cocktail
10 oz vodka
5 oz triple sec
2 oz bitters
1 c fresh-squeezed blood orange juice
2 c Cherry Soda
Ice
Grenadine, for rim garnish
Fill a large punch bowl with ice. Pour in vodka, triple sec, bitters, blood orange juice and cherry soda. Stir well.
Rim each glass with grenadine then fill with punch.
Excellent to serve to the kids that you want to go to bed early......kidding of course!
