Cynara cardunculusscolymus....

The artichoke is a variety of a species of thistle cultivated as a food. The edible matter is buds that form within the flower heads before the flowers come into bloom. The most astonishing fact is this: I hate to eat these things!

The farm has decided to produce this crop.......and we are already in progress of the planting preparation for this large leafy plant. Our hillside behind the house will become the artichoke field. These plants can attain a height of 6.5 feet. Artichokes will only produce a harvest for 3 to 4 years..... so we will need to start new plants every few seasons in order to maintain a steady crop.

You can look for this fruit at our future fruit stand.....next year. I wont be looking for them :-)
