Pink Pearl apples never wins the beauty contests ....

It's not a apple that you will find in the big chain super markets.....and that's too bad for the consumers! This apple wins hands down....over the Granny Smith apple. It has a certain sweetness that is kicked with a tartness......dryer that most other apples (that means no soggy pie!).

It's a ugly apple.....blemishes galore! Why would you ever want to buy such a ugly apple from the Natomas Farm? Here's why:

By request of our good friends Val and Ron of Alaska........

The secret recipe of Mom's Apple Dumplings

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup butter

6 Natomas Farm's Pink Pearl apples

2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup milk

Make syrup of the first 4 ingredients.....to a boil....add butter.
Pare and cut the apples in fourths.
Sift the dry ingredients.....cut in the shortening. Add milk all at once and stir until moisten. Then roll out dough 1/4 inch thick.....and make 5 inch squares. Arrange four pieces of apple, centered of each cut out. Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar onto apple. Add a tablespoon of butter to the center of the apples. Fold the corners of the dough inward till the apples are covered. place these one inch apart in a 9in by 12 inch baking pan (I like glass). Now pour the syrup over the dough.

Bake at 375 for 35 minutes. Serve warm. Makes six dumplings.

This is a secret family recipe......please do not share it with anyone.
