......we have Luther Burbank products
More than a century ago, horticulturalist Luther Burbank bred the plumcot with a 50-50 plum and apricot split. More than 20 varieties of pluots have been developed. Each variety comprises a different percentage of plum and apricot genes resulting in fruit of a varying attributes.
You can ripen firm this fruit at home by placing them in a paper bag with an apple or a banana....so they say on Google. We just leave them on the kitchen counter.....
You can freeze without a blanching.....for jam making later.
Oh....and you can make a wonderful pancake syrup too.
Next year, the bulk of our pluots will be processed into dried fruit.
This third variety is our third crop of Pluots....and final. Each variety ripens throughout the different months of summer . Farmer Deno has been picking and picking and still more picking. Much is being processed for freezing. I have hundreds of pounds in the freezers. In 5 gallon buckets and five pound plastic bags. Should I buy another freezer......the far wall out there is lined with freezers!
I have plans (actually I have started to construct) for a walk in refrigerator unit. Exciting stuff. To know that next year that walk in will be packed with our hand grown produce.
There corn screaming to be harvested......the cantaloupe wants out of the field.....banana squash is in need to be picked as well. Did I mention that the prickly pear crop is in about two weeks also?
All this going on.....I got to say it is rewarding.
Oh.....Luther Burbank was the Grand daddy of the thorn-less cactus too!
