.... exactly 57 years ago boysenberries were discovered

There are folks out there that never had the taste of a boysenberry. Then again....there are many folks out there that never even heard of a boysenberry. I found out what they were from a place in my childhood history......a magical place named Knott's Berry Farm of southern California....exactly 57 years ago.

There are many berries out there being sold from local fruit stands. Any one that has driven up the coast route northward will tell you of loganberries, marion berries......perhaps tell you of the gooseberries....that are for sale. I have done this northward drive hundreds of times myself......but never seen boysenberries on the route.

Here at our farm...we have been growing berries for five years. Many of the old timers will come by our fruit stand to grab a few flats. Long conversations will rise from these folks about "the old days" of eating home grown fruits and buying off of the street vendors....as well as the fruit stands that used to populate the roadways by the hundreds.

So just what is a boysenberry. It's a berry that is plump....sweet....and perfect for making that special pie. Now I suppose you are going to ask.....just where does the berry come from? I'll let the chart below explain that to you.
